By 2021, only 1 in 3 young people who need help with their mental health will get an evidence-based treatment.
Universities UK said that over the past five years, 94% of universities had seen a “sharp increase” in the number of people trying to access support services. The National Union of Students (NUS) said that mental health services in higher education were “strained” and “at times non-existent”.
The Office for National Statistics published data suggesting 95 students took their own lives in England and Wales in the 12 months to July last year.
More investment in prevention strategies is needed. In this sense, institutions should promote resilience and mental well-being as they are critical factors influencing student´s mental and physical health, as well as daily functioning.
Given the need for time-and resource-effective interventions that can reach large volumes of young people across European countries, ECoWeB Project aims to develop and promote self-help digital interventions adapted to young people´s lifestyles.
